What a crazy day I had yesterday. Made plans to visit Mombacho Valcano in Masaya, Nicaragua. We caught a bus from the base camp all the way up, which is 1345m. Mombacho has several hiking trails to view the craters, yes more than one crater.
This was probably the hardest hike I have even done. I haven’t exercised in more than three years so my stamina level was nonexistent. My companions did the uphill trek with ease with an exception of another girl.
We were surrounded by lush tropical rain forest and a number of wildlife species such as Salamander, insects, scorpions, birds, and Pumas.
We even did the Puma trail, where we had to be accompanied by a trail guide due to the risk of getting attacked by a Puma.
Having head ache, feeling nausea and body pain from the hike, we finally got back to base camp thinking the adventure was over. We walked back to the main road and hitched hiked in 3 different vehicles to get to our midway destination which was Masaya, where we stopped for dinner. We were shocked to find out that there was no bus service going to Managua after 6pm and it was 7:30pm. The only option was to hitch hike again. We walked for about 8km with no luck of anybody stopping for us as it was dark.
